Ribbon:

performed at Schindler's Factory, Krakow; Baltic galleries, Ustka. September 2004

This performance with ribbons followed the journey of the festival from Ustka to Krakow. At an imaginative stretch, I walked the distance trailing ever-changing-colour ribbons emerging as if by magic from my pocket. To festival viewers in Ustka I disappeared along the beach, to Krakow viewers I emerged from the outside into the factory space. On the long journey my shoes filled with sand; arriving in the factory I could finally sit down to shake out my boots.

Designed as a symbolic, magical gesture in a country with which I was unfamiliar in literal terms, but strongly historically connected, this performance enabled me to simply and openly address my connection.
